Individual Therapy

No criterion says, “Yep, it’s time for counseling.”

Sometimes, people need someone to talk to – an objective third party who can hear what is going on in their life and provide an unbiased perspective.

It could be a work situation or something with the family. Perhaps it is a life transition, creating some anxiety or wondering who you are now, feeling lost. Just getting things out of your head and articulating them to another person is helpful.

A relationship with a coworker, boss, friend, spouse, or partner may have become unbearable, yet the other person doesn’t see it. You aren’t ready to leave, but you’re at your wits’ end trying to make things better.

Maybe an obstacle is blocking your path. You may know exactly where you want to be in your career, but the stress of managing people is just not tolerable and is holding you back. There are ways to create space inside so you can work with the obstacles and not feel so trapped.

Perhaps something is missing, but you can’t quite name it. You may worry you are standing still as life moves on, slowly losing ground, or feel afraid you can’t stand being in your life the way it is much longer.

Sometimes, people know they need help.

They know there is an urgent need in their lives, but they are not sure how to meet it. The pain has become overwhelming.

Emotions, such as anxiety and panic attacks or the heaviness of feeling depressed and unmotivated, are getting in the way of what needs to get done in life – daily tasks like going to work or class, being around certain people or people in general, taking care of the house, and taking care of yourself.

Sleep may be out of whack; stress is through the roof; you may cry at inconvenient times. You may be so fed up with things that it doesn’t take much to make you explode in anger, and you’re tired of the guilt you feel about it later. When you consider your options for improving things, you come up with nothing.

You may think of hurting yourself.

Perhaps the most unbearable is the tape recorder in your head that plays an endless loop to make sure you never forget how worthless you are, how this is all your fault, how you should be able to get over this.

That tape recorder is a liar. I want to help you see and believe that so your life can start changing for the better.

Individual therapy offers the support you need.

My goal is to provide a supportive space where you feel free to express what is hijacking your plans and robbing your happiness. My role will be to listen and show you some new ways to listen to yourself. Together, we can make sense of what you are facing.

Sometimes, circumstances in your life need to change. Together, we will sort that out, problem-solve, and make solid plans and next steps.

You may learn some new skills – new ways to communicate, to work with emotions, to relax and feel more connected.

Often, having a different perspective can help. I may offer an alternative way to think about things.

Here’s when working with me goes deeper.

Many times, we think life would feel better if things and people around us were different – a new job, a different partner, a new house, a different city – but in so many cases, these solutions don’t hold.

The answers lie deeper within yourself. I’ll help you discover what lies in the truest, deepest place of your heart.

My approach to individual therapy goes beyond traditional “talk therapy.” Drawing from Internal Family Systems and body-based work, I help you notice different parts of yourself and what’s happening in your body so you can reconnect with your deepest, truest self.

I’ll guide you to listen and search for the answers in your thoughts, your emotions, and even in your body. Along the way, you’ll learn how to be with the uncomfortable parts of yourself – the emotions you’re used to running from, the tension you didn’t realize you were carrying, and especially that lying tape recorder in your head.

The more you listen to and unders – the more you will begin to access a deep sense of peace. And from that place of peace comes clarity, a greater sense of ease in your life, and a new ability to navigate. Obstacles don’t seem so big. The fog clears, and new paths emerge. You can sit with what you used to run from. You’re living your life in a new way.

Don’t struggle alone.

I’ll be a guide, not an expert authority who knows best what you need. I’ll be your collaborative partner.

Together, we’ll get back to the core of YOU that exists underneath the anxiety, the frustration, and the obstacles.

Together, we can create the clarity you want and experience a life transformation that will get you out of feeling stuck and without options.
